Open the Kitchen Pantry ! The Kitchen Sink Artists week 3 and 4

What an amazing two weeks of fantastic visual art works and responses to the Kitchen Sink Artists provocation. In the past two weeks students were asked to examine their homes, the ordinary and everyday things in their home, and see them with artists’ eyes.
Why would examining the home through the lense of the artist be so different to when we live in the house like we do every day? Well, the Kitchen Sink Artists have helped us to see our world in new ways by asking us to see the ordinary in a new way. Who would have thought that the Kitchen Pantry or food cupboard could produce such interesting series of still life works and drawings of all shapes and sizes? Who would have thought that the bathroom could be so interesting?
The Kitchen Sink Artists were curious about the everyday things around their homes and the way people interact with these things. Through their interactions with these objects the Kitchen Sink Artists show us how to see what is around us from a new and fresh perspective.
Using a timer when drawing is an interesting exercise because when we have only a short amount of time to draw it can be an uncomfortable feeling and it forces you to draw the absolute bare bones of what you see. Certainly when you draw for a longer period of time you can relax and draw those details that you notice and want to highlight. It stretches us as artists and we are forced to see our subject matter in new ways.
Below are some examples of the amazing work that Laura and I have been receiving. The blog features some very beautiful works and stories. Please take the time to scroll through it.
