Mindfulness Reflection

Dear lovely parents and carers,

Did you know that everyone in the Year 2 Neighbourhood has been practicing mindfulness for almost a year now?  Our mindfulness practice starts after recess (2.30pm) each afternoon. If you were to walk into the neighbourhood at this time you would see:

  • students lying down on their backs (Sophie)
  • with their eyes closed and being still (Kat)
  • Students would have their palms facing up (Lyla)
  • calm facial expressions (Tristan)
  • people with their hands by their sides (Lachlan)
  • You would hear the students softly breathing in and out (Olivia)

We used to have a charming chime that helped us relax, but it was a bit distracting for some students.  (Theo) Sometimes we played music. It wasn’t rock and roll, it was soft, calming music (Sunny W and Kat).  We have realised it was better for everyone to just have quietness (Maggie).

We do mindfulness for 10-15 minutes everyday.  You might like to try mindfulness at home. Here are some of the many reasons we believe mindfulness is beneficial for our neighbourhood:

If you have had a long and busy day you might get tired so relaxing will help you. (Owen L)

It makes you check in with you body and clears your mind.  When you feel crazy and you’ve done something epic mindfulness helps you calm down.  It calms your heart down. (Archie M)

If you got in an argument during the day you will feel better after relaxing. (Sebastien)

If you are stressed it’s a good time to calm down and settle on your own. (Tristan)

After running down a lot you can rest you body and your mind. (Sophie and Felix)

You need to rest your mind so you can get new thoughts. (Lyla)

It helps with your wellbeing, like how you react to things. It helps cool your temper. (Mia)

When you are relaxing you are refreshing your brain. (Izzy)

It refocuses your mind. (Claudia)

It gives you a chance to shut down your body and have a rest. (Alessia)

If you have a rough day you can erase the bad memories. (Seb E)

Mindfulness puts everything to the side. (Wesley)

You can get back on track with what you are doing. (Ike)

If you didn’t have a good sleep the night before you can close your eyes and have a rest. (Wren)

Mindfulness takes out all of the bad energy and fills you up with good energy. (Franzi)

It helps you control your mind and brain. (Owen C)

It helps you cool your boiler. (Hugo)

Mindfulness helps me not think about anything. (Sonny D)

It helps me reflect back on my day, all the good things that happened. (Kat)

It helps you get rid of the bad thoughts by relaxing. (AJ)

Mindfulness makes me feel better. (Scarlett H)

Mindfulness makes me feel shut down and calm which is a good thing. (Lilian)

Yours mindfully,

The Mindfulness Masters of P.H.P.S
