Phys Ed Happenings

During term 4, some Prep Phys. Ed. sessions will be run by coaches from Youlden Parkville Cricket Club. The preps will be learning activities each week to strengthen their hand eye coordination and practice skills necessary for cricket (throwing, catching, batting and fielding). This experience also helps promote interest in the sport of cricket and strengthens the connection between schools and clubs in our community.

Students from Princes Hill Secondary are also working with the Preps this term, building their motor skills, spacial awareness and introducing them to new sports.

Year 1 – Year 1 have been learning another dance; Nutbush. They are encouraged to practice at home.

Year 2 – Ultimate Survivor. In preparation for 3/4 next year, the year twos are fine tuning their skills and learning more complex games. Ultimate survivor is a game that involves teamwork, strategic play and incorporate many different movement skills, including moving with with a ball (without running with it), throwing at targets and dodging.

Year 3/4 – The 3/4 neighbourhood is taking part in a hockey unit, learning skills involved in the sport including moving with the ball, passing the ball, attacking, defending and effective game play in teams.

Year 5/6 – The 5/6s have been learning how to play sports they are doing for inter school sport – Cricket, Newcomb, Tchoukball and Rounders. Next week will be Basketball. Students took part in the Beep test again and compared their result with their Term 3 result and we discussed factors which can contribute to the changes in score.
