This week, the Year 2 Neighbourhood met the artist in residence who will be working with us for the next four weeks. Tai Snaith, a talented illustrator, has come to help us with the illustrations for the narratives that we are currently composing. The focus in this week’s workshop with Tai was sketching parts of our story. We also read a book that she has recently written and illustrated. It was a wonderful book that showed the reader that you can be anywhere you want if you use your imagination.
We all brought our storyboards (that we have been working on last week and this week) to refer to when while we were sketching four key scenes from our narratives. Throughout the week, students shared their storyboards with the neighbourhood and were given feedback about how to further develop their ideas. Some of the photos of our work were taken earlier in the week (when we hadn’t yet edited our work to check for things like capital letters, spelling, punctuation, and that it all makes sense!). All students in the neighbourhood are actively encouraged to share their work with the group – it is an exciting way for others to hear about the many different ideas for stories that everyone in the neighbourhood has come up!
Our two goals before next Wednesday’s session are to finish our rough draft of our narrative and our four sketches that we started this week with Tai.
