Welcome back to Term 4 and welcome back to Lily! We hope everyone had a restful break. Here is what we have been up to over the past two weeks:
Provocations
In Provocations, we have continued our focus on gratitude and self-care. We’ve been hard at work designing and creating a gratitude jar for our Neighbourhood, providing a space for us to reflect on the things we’re thankful for every day. Additionally, we’ve established a self-care station with things such as sunscreen, hand sanitiser, lost property and affirmations. Students have continued to participate in an Author’s Station and the creation of our very own newspaper club has allowed us to share stories and highlights from the neighbourhood. Furthermore, we’ve been perfecting our performances and preparing ourselves for presentation.
Maths
Mathematics has been an exciting journey for us during the first part of this term. We’ve delved into the world of problem-solving strategies and applied them to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division sums. It’s been an incredible experience watching our mathematical skills grow and our confidence in tackling challenging problems soar. Moreover, we’ve expanded our knowledge of place value, setting a strong foundation for more complex mathematical concepts in the future.
Inquiry
Students exploring personal gratitude have spent time collecting and analysing data about the activities people participate in for self-care. We began trialing the activities and reflecting on how they made us feel. We will continue this work over the coming weeks and share our findings in our Guide to Gratitude. The cultural gratitude group has been writing letters to families, hoping to collect and share recipes that are dear to our hearts. These recipes will not only connect us to our cultural roots but also create a sense of unity within our neighbourhood. Furthermore, the environmental group had an inspiring visit to Melbourne Cemetery, where we joined Project Cultivate in contributing to our environment and learning about its history.
Writing: Spelling, Handwriting, and Gratitude Journals
In writing, we’ve been diligently working on improving our spelling and handwriting skills. Each of us has set individual goals to enhance our writing abilities. We’ve been applying these skills when writing in our gratitude journals.
Term 4 has started on an inspiring note, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term has in store for us. Thank you for your support as we continue to grow and thrive in Neighbourhood 1. Stay tuned for more adventures and discoveries in the coming weeks
