The students reflected on our inquiry into the concept of place. We brainstormed and documented what we had learnt from our projects and the workshops the children participated in. The children were then asked to come up with some overarching statements that reflected their developing understandings. The question that was put to them was: From all that we have learnt, what can we now say about ‘Place’? Here are some of the statements the children come up with:
All places have features and they are all different (Marta).
A place can be anywhere (Atticus).
A place can be as small as a bedroom and as large as a country (Edie).
We make connections to places through stories and feelings.
The features of a place can be natural, managed or constructed (Peter).
Some features of a place are natural and some are human (Morgan).
Features can be all shapes and sizes (Jimmy).
