Season exploration

Last week, approaching the end of another month, the Preps took part in an exploration into the months and seasons of the year. We began the session by listening to the seasons song.

We looked at how each season is different and discussed the characteristics of each. The months of the year were placed around and the children could see how each season has 3 months and they move in an order from January to December.

Axolotl group went outside and collected different coloured Autumn leaves. We wrote about the leaves we found through interactive writing using a repetitive pattern.

Seahorse group looked at the different ways that we can describe the leaves. They referred to the colour, the size and the shape.

Eel and seahorse group students each thought about their favourite season was. The Preps chose a yellow unifix block if Summer was their favourite, a blue block if Winter was their favourite, a green block if Spring was their favourite or a orange block if Autumn was their favourite. We sat in a circle and each child spoke about why they chose the particular season, then cast their vote by placing the unifix in a row. When everyone had chosen we analysed the data.
