Plants

Our Inquiry has moved into looking at natural systems in our world.  The students have started to investigate plants and their systems. We have spent the week thinking about what plants need to grow. Here is a snapshot of how our inquiry looked this week.

At the beginning of the week we planted our snow pea seeds.  Students planted four different seeds under four different conditions – one control one- which has soil, water, sunlight; one that has sunlight, soil but no water; one that has water, soil but no sunlight and one that is planted in sand and has water and sunlight.

Once those were complete, the students then started another seed experiment, this time to watch how the seed grows.  The students put their seeds into a plastic cup with some wet paper towel.  We will watch how the seeds grow over the next two weeks.

Once the experiment was completed, the students discussed the words that came up whilst thinking and discussing

The next day, some of these words were used in a literacy task – where they were put into a word search and a word scramble.

We started to then think about how plants could be used as art work – and came up with the great idea to make leaf pictures.
