Readers’ Notebooks

Readers’ Notebooks are required to come to school every Thursday.

During independent reading time each Thursday, teachers will be reading with the students who have brought in their folder. Teachers read with as many children as we can during the time frame. Of course, children who may miss out one week, have priority the following week (provided their folder have been brought in).

When changing Junior School Library books…..

  • leave at least one book that has been read many times inside the folder. This allows children to feel comfortable and confident about reading an already sighted book to the teacher. Read books in a variety of ways to your child e.g. read to, read with, child to read independently.
  • Encourage your child to choose books they are interested in. It is important to immerse children in different types of literature. Keep in mind that there needs to be a balance between books of interest and books to develop their reading skills.

Each time your child reads a text with the teacher, they will receive a stamp for their achievement and it is recorded in the back of their Readers’ Notebook.

If you have any questions, feel free to speak with your child’s home group teacher.
