Looking ahead to 2020..
We love having parent support for our Big 3 sporting events (Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country). Not only does it help the event to run smoothly, but also it is a necessary requirement to ensure the safety of all students. In line with ChildSafe regulations, parent helpers must have a current Working with Children’s check. If you are considering being a helper, now is the time to get it organised – it is a very simple process that can be done online.
Swimming Carnival – 11th of February (AM) This event is at Coburg Swimming Pool and it is a compulsory event for students in Year 4 – 6 to attend. Students can sign up for events at house meetings early next year. Every swimmer is awarded a point for their house for participation, with bonus points awarded for placing. Everyone is encouraged to get into their house spirit by wearing house colours and learning chants to cheer on their peers. This is a great opportunity for your child to put some goal setting in place over the holidays– if they currently are unable to swim 50m, I encourage them to get some practice in over the holidays!
Cross Country – 23rd March (AM). Our school cross country is at Princes Park and students from Years 3 to 6 participate. 8/9 and 10 year old groups run a distance of 2km, while the 11s and 12s run 3km. Kids have been practicing running for a longer time, learning how to find the steady pace they are comfortable with. Like anything, a bit of training makes such a difference. Going for jogs around the track will improve their confidence, along with running ability. We also require parent support for this event, particularly assisting with supervision around the perimeter of the track.
Have a wonderful, safe and active holiday. Remember the message from Sammy the Seagull – SLIP, SLOP, SLAP, SEEK and SLIDE to protect yourself in the Sun.
