Measuring Change

Over the last couple of weeks, the children in 3/4 have been measuring change in a variety of ways. They have been exploring how using different forms of measurement enable us to more deeply understand the changes that happen around us and then take action to create positive changes in the world moving forward.

Many people in 3/4 worked with family members, other people in 3/4 and even their pets to measure and track change. Students developed personal research questions and followed the research process to collect data, measure different things over time, read for research and then document and share their projects.

Elliot has explored the size of coins for his measurement project. He’s measured the circumference of the coins to compare the different sizes!

Alessia’s project explored the ‘why’ behind climate change and looked at the questions “How do we know the climate is changing?” and “How do we know it has been because of human impact?”

Mateo’s project was all about the history of terrace homes in Melbourne.

Nico’s project explored the concept of evolution.

After we shared our measurement project, some small groups came together to share and celebrate! During these digital small group conferences, the children built on ideas, shared their knowledge, celebrated results and thought about next steps. This was a great example of positive collaboration and peer feedback!
