Pasta e plurali!

The last two weeks have seen the students engage in an exploration of Italian food culture and its connection to their lives at home. They’ve scoured the pantry for different types of pasta, looked at the meanings behind some of the names, and are beginning to learn the names of sughi (sauces) and ingredienti (ingredients). Students have been able to use their knowledge of numbers and colors as they label their pasta drawings and share recipes and lists of ingredients. Students have shared stories and pictures of cooking with family members, nonna’s special pasta recipes, some have created their own pasta menu and have even been inspired to create a delicious ‘piatto di pasta’ for lunch, taking advantage of the time at home!

Whilst looking at the names of pasta shapes students are actively engaged in an exploration of the use of the plural in Italian (different to English in that rather than add an ‘s’ to the end of the noun, the ending is changed)…they are already familiar with it because pasta varieties are written as a plural: spaghetti, gnocchi, penne, cannelloni, tagliatelle etc.

A heartfelt grazie to parents and carers who have supported the students with their remote Italian learning…it has been wonderful to share the interactions of families as they search, share, cook, taste and enjoy together! It has been a delightful (and delicious!) expression of One Community! Buon appetito!
