I’ve been delighted by the wonderful learning shared by the students, as they respond to the Italian provocations, sharing aspects of their life at home and how the Italian culture is present there : recipes and photos of delicious italian dishes created at home, students recording themselves counting, talking about their feelings, sharing their dances, reflecting on their Languages Online learning, pretending to be an ‘orsetto’ and drawing what they see outside their ‘finestra’. It has also been very heartwarming to see how families are sharing the learning experiences….with parents and carers getting involved in the learning, many interacting with their children in Italian (bravissimi mamme e papa`!)
One of the highlights has been the collaboration with Deb, our wonderful music teacher! Together we have provided experiences for the children that combine Italian language and music. The younger children have learnt to sing a beautiful Italian lullaby, Fa la nanna, (in readiness for Mothers’ and Special Carers’ Day) and have watched as I teach Deb to count to 20 (venti) via Facetime. Deb then created a delightful Italian song reinforcing the counting. It has been a joy to receive student responses, to see them engaging with the lullaby and the counting, and to see the children share these experiences with their families. What a wonderful expression of One Community! Grazie mille a Deb e ai bambini e famiglie!
