Benvenuti a notizie italiane. Our prep students are enjoying their Italian learning with Mario and Pocoyo, who help them to discover new vocabulary and expressions. We’ve learnt to recognise and say some colours (giallo, rosso, verde e blu) and are beginning to count to ten.(uno, due, tre, quattro, cinque, sei, sette, otto, nove, dieci) Students enjoy greeting Anna Maria and Mario with a ciao or buongiorno!
Here are some great resources for consolidating learning around numbers and colours:

In the year one and two neighbourhoods the students are learning to use different greetings for different times of the day, assisted by our friends Muzzy and Bob!
Buongiorno: good morning/good day
Buon pomeriggio: good afternoon
Buonasera: good evening
Buonanotte: good night
Ciao: hello/goodbye
Salve: hello/goodbye
In the three/four and five/six neighbourhoods students are exploring the concept of formal and informal greetings, an integral part of the Italian culture. We have learnt that it is ok to greet a friend with a ‘ciao’, but not someone you don’t know! In this case, it is much better to say buongiorno or salve! ( or buon pomeriggio/buonasera depending on the time of the day!) This will be useful knowledge for when the year five/sixes visit Zero Gradi to order a gelato in term 4!

Our Coro dei Bambini has started meeting each Monday at lunchtime. It is wonderful to see around 60 students from years 3-6 turn up to embrace Italian music and song! This year is the 8th year of the Coro and Signora Bruna (Brunswick North PS) and I are planning a “best of” to celebrate our achievements! We will start with Volare and Tintarella di Luna (both iconic Italian hits of the 50s!)
