Viva il gelato e la musica!

Ciao a tutti! What a busy week it’s been! 4 trips to Zero Gradi, a half day rehearsal at Brunswick North Primary School and a wonderful performance by the Coro dei Bambini at the Abruzzo Club.

These events provide students with an authentic opportunity to use the Italian language, through song, ordering gelato and interacting with members of the local Italian speaking community.

Our Coro has gone from strength to strength: we are now 150 students across the two schools. Students rehearse once a week with their teacher, then meet for a half day workshop, culminating in a joyful celebration, filled with song, dance, and delicious pizza/calzone! Participation in the Coro builds confidence and fluency in the use of the Italian language.

Here are some reflections by the students on their Zero Gradi and Coro experiences:

Zero Gradi was really fun and I was proud that I ordered all in Italian (Asha)

The Coro dei Bambini has been an incredible esperienza and it was totally worth it! All of the rehearsing and learning led up to an amazing concert and an awesome after party (lots of dancing!) (Ava)

I enjoyed Zero Gradi, it was a great learning experience. My flavours were limone e mango (Christian)

I think Zero Gradi is a great activity for learning Italian, by experience. I ordered peanutella (nutella e burro di arachidi) and cookie and cream (biscotti e crema) (Swanee)

I really enjoyed this (Coro) experience of singing in Italian and the calzone was delicious! I loved dancing the tarantella and seeing Roger and Gino performing on stage! (Poppy P)
