Literature has always been a superpower of life-long learners and this year’s Book Week theme, Reading is my Secret Power was another chance to celebrate the role of literature in our lives. It was a pleasure to see the 5/6s embrace the challenge of dressing-up during their provocations and join in the spirit of the celebration as the leaders of our school. To all the parents and carers that encouraged and supported their child’s efforts, we thank you!
As we begin a new cycle of Book Clubs, we are beginning to focus our attention on literature that enables us to walk in others’ shoes, literature that can begin to illustrate what life is like when choices are taken away from us. It is hoped that this literature will open-up discussion about ethics, how “character” is formed, and ultimately continue to build empathy for others. We would love to hear of any family favourites…novels, graphic novels, memoirs, picture storybooks (wordless or otherwise) that consider these concepts.
