“Nothing Without Joy” – Malaguzzi
This quote came to mind in our planning meeting today when we were reflecting on the week the children have had in the Year 1 neighbourhood. The joy and the engagement of the children was evident, as they continued their exploration into stories of our environment to deepen our understanding of how stories are used to build communities and communicate important knowledge. We have been exploring how we can use stories to communicate important messages about the environment for our future. Children have been engaged in writing information texts about the environment, writing narratives told through the eyes of animals, and stories with persuasive ideas about the environment. We have been reading rich texts to the children and have asked them to respond using Thinking Routines to deepen their understanding of the ideas explored in the text.
In maths, children have been focusing on time and measurement, specifically days of the week, months of the year and the features of an analogue clock.
Today was our whole-school Book Parade to celebrate Book Week. Children dressed-up as a character from their favourite book and created beautiful front-covers of books they know and love.
