Week 9 Learning Reflection

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week has been a busy week – we are getting close to the end of Term 1! We have been creating a few pieces of work for our portfolios, and we have been putting in lots of effort (so we are all a little bit tired!).

One of these pieces was a recount that we started on Monday and Tuesday in our Writing Workshops. First we wrote our draft and edited it, and then have spent the last two days working on our good copy. When we write our good copies, we have been focusing on letter formation, writing on the line, punctuation like capital letters and full stops, and some of us are even including paragraphs in our writing.

On top of the work that has been happening in workshops, we would like to share some of our favourite provocations for the week. Ahilan has enjoyed working on a recount using a shared prompt that we wrote as a group last week. Franzi has enjoyed thinking about her learning this term with her ‘Term 1 Reflection’. She wrote her ideas in her Inquiry Book, while Kat, Alessia, Jessica, and Iona develop a storyboard for a play to share their ideas, and then practised the play together in our Performance Space.

Lewis found it helpful to look back through his books to remind him what we have been learning about, and then wrote his ideas in his Inquiry Book. Lyla shut her eyes and stayed in her seat for a few minutes to help her remember some of the things she has enjoyed this term. Robert found it helpful to organise his ideas into two topics – the ‘big’ things (like excursions and cooking), and his ‘favourite things’ (like writing good copy pieces of work, which he finds very beautiful!).

One other very important thing that we need to add is that tomorrow is our Harmony Day Whole School Assembly. A few students from our neighbourhood have volunteered to share their understanding of Harmony Day. Franzi, Kaan, Lewis, Ahilan, Claudia, Ziyu and Abdiwali are excited to be presenting in front of the school tomorrow morning, and will all be speaking in a language other than English that they speak at home or have learnt at school. We hope to see you there!
