Due to school photos happening all of Week 7, our excursion to ACMI at Federation Square has been moved to the following week, and is now planned for Tuesday 19th March 2019 in Week 8. There have also been some slight amendments to the program at ACMI that the students will participate in.
Students will participate in the ‘Once Upon A Time’ interactive talk at ACMI as part of our inquiry investigating the different reasons why we write. Students will have the opportunity to develop their understanding of the structure of a narrative text, the fairytale genre, features of screen text, and be introduced to characterisation in fairy tales. The excursion precedes a focus in the Year 2 Neighbourhood on narrative writing that we will begin in Term 2, and connects to an exciting artist-in-residence program that Hannah has planned for Term 3.
So, on Tuesday 19th March 2019, we will leave shortly after taking the role in the morning so that we arrive to ACMI ready for a 10am start. Students will also get a chance to visit the ‘Screen Worlds’ exhibition. We will be eating our lunches at Federation Square.
Look out for permission forms sent through COMPASS, which will be sent to students this week. We plan to catch the tram down Lygon Street into the city, meaning that our transport costs for the excursion will be free, as Public Transport Victoria is now offering free travel for primary school groups during off-peak times. We will also be requiring a number of parent volunteers to travel with us and help out on the day, so please get in touch with Meredith, Kate, or Warrick if you are available and keen to come along!
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to come so far – we have emailed you with the change of date and hope that you can still make it!
