Week 3 Learning Reflection

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to our blog reflection for Week 3.

The Year 2 neighbourhood have begun using a checklist to help us be productive, to keep track of our learning throughout the week and to make choices about how we challenge ourselves in Projects and Provocations.

We have been working together to create freeze frames. These have shown our understanding of the maths in our lives, what the perfect learning environment looks like and our ideal writing space.

We have been doing independent maths such as multiplying numbers (Tristan), skip counting (Archie M), number patterns (Banjo), collecting data about what we like to write about (Hugo & Kaan) and making graph to show what we found out (Lewis, Kat, Archie M, Theo, Allanah, Ike & Sam).

We have been recording different examples that show how maths is everywhere. Some examples include launching rockets (Robert), clocks (Maggie), counting objects and shopping (Ahilan) and using calculators (Franzi).

We have begun our inquiry for 2019 by thinking about all the reasons why we write. Some of the ideas we have had include writing letters to Santa to ensure we get what we want (Thomas), because it is fun (Felix), to give information (Kat), to remember things (Ziyu), to create shopping lists so we can stay healthy (Abdullah), to improve our writing and to improve our learning (Jude & Imogen). We also considered the different types of books we like to read, and what sort of topics we like reading about.

We also tried our hand at some more science, including a rather challenging quiz. Can you do better than we did?

All things space – a quick quiz

In our shared text workshops we enjoyed Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. It is about a tall witch with a very pointy hat and some helpful animals. The message of the book was be nice to others and stand up for your friends.

These examples are just a tiny snapshot of what we have been doing this week! We are very much looking forward to diving deeper into our inquiry ‘Why Write?’ in the coming weeks.
