Princes Park Biodiversity Audit

As part of our goal to better understand the natural world and how different species contribute to ecosystems, the Life on Earth group conducted a biodiversity audit of Princes Park. Prior to conducting the audit the students investigated the kinds of flora and fauna they could encounter, where they would live, what they eat and what role they play in an urban ecosystem.

As we walked through the glorious spring sunshine the students began observing and recording the different species and habitats at Princes Park. The students were very tuned in to what was around them, noticing things like the hollows in mature eucalyptus trees, how the millipedes in the leaf litter help decomposition and the different shaped leaves and types of bark and wondering what their function might be.

Next week we will unpack our findings and think about our role and the types of positive actions we can be taking to improve life on land and in the marine environment.

Thank you to Emily, Hannah and Arlo for joining us on the audit.

Have a great weekend!
