Welcome to Term 3
We hope you all had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday. Week 1 has flown by. Here are some of the highlights:
English
Continuing with our theme of global and local issues, students are now writing a narrative related to the issue they researched in term 2. This week it was all about planning and drafting. Ask your child to show you their draft. Such creativity!
Maths
Multiplication
It’s multiplication season here in the 5/6 Neighbourhood. Right now we are making sure that everyone has a deep conceptual understanding of multiplication and gains confidence and fluency in performing this operation. Then it will be time to explore and create real-life problems involving multiplication.
Probability
If three dice are rolled 50 times, how many times do you think they will all land on an even number? How many times do think you will get 3 sixes? These are the types of questions we have been researching this week. The kids loved running experiments and recording their findings. Next week, we will look at the difference between experimental and theoretical probability.
Juicy Maths
Our intrepid juicy mathematicians are either exploring polyhedra, exploring the world of fractions, or delving into the world of bases other than 10. Wish them luck. Problem 5 is a doozy!
Provocations
We have some fabulous provocations running at the moment, including:
- Art as Action: How can you create something that will communicate basic human emotions connected to a global issue?
- Art of the Weave: How can you create something that can tell a story?
- Global Awareness: Global Warming Awareness Art- How can we create a provoking image that will shock somebody to STOP and think about global warming
- Design a yoga lesson to teach your peers
Photos and videos of what the kids create coming soon!
