VISUAL ART NEWS – Fabric printing workshop

Dear parents/carers,

On the 28th May we will begin fabric printing. This is the culmination of our study of the work of Marimekko and the power of artists to express their creative selves beyond the canvas. This fabric design and our fabric print represents the final stage of the process an artist/printmaker goes through to complete a work.

To create a fabric print, your child has been asked to bring some fabric object or item of clothing that is white or beige so they can print on it in visual art class. This can be bought in ASAP and stored in your child’s locker.

After discussion with the students, we have compiled a list of possible things that would be suitable:

  • Pillow case
  • Cotton/calico bag
  • T-shirt
  • Pillow case
  • Cushion
  • A length of fabric (to sew something later)

Many thanks for your help with this,

Hannah Rother-Gelder
