This term the 3/4’s have begun looking into our inquiry for this year of ‘Groups.’ Our guiding questions thus far include what makes up a group? What do they think is important about groups? And why are they groups in the first place? To support this understanding, the students took part in a wellbeing workshop where they explored the ways in which team strengths are used in collaborative play. The students revisited the word ‘Groups’ and what it means to them, some of the findings included:
- Teamwork – Ava
- Cooperation – Henry
- Kindness – Lola
- Communication – Poppy
Following a brief discussion, students were asked to pair up in a group of two and attempt a balloon game. Each pair were asked to hold hands and work as one to keep their balloon in the air without releasing the grip of their two hands. The students found the workshop very valuable and reminded them about the importance of teamwork/collaboration.
Other provocations the students participated in this week were how to effectively write an informative text by describing which groups the kids were involved with. We looked at the reasons of why we use statistics in the real world, measuring volume in 3D shapes and connecting our learning with a highly engaging online measurement program.
Next week, we will begin asking students to bring one group artefact of a group they are involved with. This could include a trophy/medallion, a certificate, photo, art work piece or even a friendship representation. From here, the students will have the opportunity to display their artefact to the rest of the neighbourhood as well as talk or write how it connects to their group. So please support your child in finding or choosing an artefact to help with their learning and workshops planned for the week.
