Welcome!

A huge welcome to all of the students and parents who will be with us in the Year 2 Neighbourhood for 2018!  We have had a great few days to start our year, with the students quickly settling in well to the different and exciting new surroundings.

Below are a few housekeeping items that we would like to share with the community:

Sun Smart Policy: Students are required to have hats with them during Term 1 and 4.  If they don’t have a hat, they are asked to sit on the verandah for break times.  The policy also states that shoulders must be covered during outside play – so if you child comes to school with thin straps or singlets, please make sure they have a light jumper or cardigan to cover their shoulders at recess and lunch.

Specialists:  Our timetable is slowly taking shape, with specialists at this stage on Wednesday 12-2 and Thursday 2:30-3:30.  As our lunch eating times have changed, Wednesday may often be a little rushed, so we are asking, if at all possible, lunch orders are given on days other than Wednesday.  Lunch orders can sometimes be running late, and can make the students feel a bit stressed about gobbling down their food!

Water Bottles: Learning can often be thirsty work! We encourage students to bring a water bottle to school and leave it in their lockers so that if they need to have a drink during the day, it is less disruptive than leaving the room to go to the water taps.

Over the next 2-3 weeks, the whole school will be involved in provocations with a wellbeing focus, most importantly the understanding of what ‘One Community’ means and also ‘Who are the People of Princes Hill?’.  The students in the year 2 neighbourhood will unpack what it means to be part of our community and who we are as individuals and show their understanding in our learning spaces through various of forms of expressions – including film, song, art, construction and games.

Our initial discussion was ‘What is One Community’?  Jen and the students brainstormed what words or phrases may be used to describe the concept.  Below was the result of our brainstorm:

Next week, students will be given ample opportunity in project & provocations and workshops to express their thoughts and ideas about how THEY contribute to the philosophy and ideals of the school.

Stay tuned for more insight into the workings of the year 2 neighbourhood!
