Strong and Capable Children

This year, we have seen the introduction of our new school values – Our Story.

Last term we looked extensively at the ‘One Community’ value – and understanding what it means to be a part of the year 2 community.  This term, we are focussing our attention on ‘Strong and Capable Children’.

We posed a question to the year 2 neighbourhood last week…….

What does it mean to be a strong and capable child?

Students got into groups of 4, with 2 pairs of buddies of the week and brainstormed what the concept and words meant.

After the students got their ideas down on paper, we came back together for our reflection and came up with some general ideas on what it meant to be a strong and capable child:

  • They should be empathetic – be able to walk in someone else’s shoes
  • You should persevere – keep trying even though things may be hard
  • Have confidence – believe in yourself
  • Standing up for yourself and others – make sure you speak up for what is right and knowing what to do at bad times
  • Being a good sport – congratulating others when they do well
  • Be brave – try new things

We will continue to explore how each child is strong and capable in their own way!
