What is a Country?

Students have been exploring the concept of a country. Students were asked to consider the characteristics that define and help us recognise a country. Students identified some of the following characteristics of countries:
Countries have their own language
Some countries like Australia have many languages.
Countries have their own money or currency
Countries have a population. Some countries have a large population like China and some like Australia have a small population.
Countries have cities.
Countries are different sizes.
Some countries share their borders with other countries.
Countries have natural features like mountains, rivers, lakes, forests, deserts…etc.
Students continued  to deepen their understanding of the features of countries through watching videos on countries and identifying their features.
