Inquiry
Our inquiry into power and its many forms continues this week. The students are considering the different aspects to power and the possibilities for positive and negative action.
Manga Art and graphic novels
The students will be further exploring identity and power through the creation of different characters, with the aim that the students will develop their own comic or graphic novel. The students will be asked to consider the morale of their story and ideas such as who the protagonist and the antagonist are.
Tournament of Minds
Tournament of Minds has been introduced to the 5/6 neighbourhood and around 40 students have had a go at a spontaneous challenge. If you’re not sure what a spontaneous challenge is, ask someone from our neighbourhood!
English
The focus in English this week is the further development of persuasive techniques. Using prompts the students are writing persuasive pieces to solve a problem. The students are encouraged to think about their passions and what is most important to them. An option that some have begun developing is a persuasive letter to the school community to convince them to think about their issue.
Maths
In maths the students are beginning to animate their interactive quizzes and apply the range of maths questions that they have come up with. The flowcharts they have created to tell the backstory of their quizzes show their logical and creative thinking.
The students also applied the four mathematical operations, including the use of decimals, fractions and percentages to think about this week’s walkathon.
