Earn and Learn Mathematics Program
Throughout this term you may hear your child mention “Earn and Learn.”
Earn and Learn is a program based on the establishment of a micro-community within the classroom. Students will be paid and taxed according to their employment. There will also be electricity and gas bills to pay, groceries to be purchased, holidays to save for, union fees to pay and insurance premiums to be met. There will be a weekly market day where students can create their own market stalls for some business opportunities.
The aim of the program is to engage students in buying, budgeting and banking exercises. Earn and Learn enables Year 3/4 students to use active Numeracy and Literacy skills. It also raises many social Justice Issues as people and business manage their budgets.
