In Literacy, we’re looking to develop our ability to write with the intent ‘to describe’. While descriptive language is an important part of any writing, we’ll be looking specifically at Information/Scientific Report. We believe this will help us the most with our inquiry in both comprehending information we are reading and in communicating our understandings. We have completed a pre-assessment that will give us a starting point for your child which will be on display in their portfolio and will have a post-assessment later next term to see evidence of growth. We have also conducted a few activities that help build up your child’s subject specific vocabulary and basic understanding of grammar, these will also be available in their portfolio.
The text structure looks a little like this…
Title Introduction – brief description/classification (What is it that you’re describing)
Conclusion – Summarising the main points or anecdotal observation |
Here is a basic description/example, apologies to arachnophobes…
This would be a great opportunity to have a look around the house and find things to discuss or write about together. The idea is to find something that your child is passionate, knows a lot of facts about and has an audience that would be excited to hear their knowledge.
