Over the last two weeks, we have continued to guide and encourage the children as they collaborate in their Inquiry project groups, helping them bring their innovative ideas to life. We scheduled regular check-in meetings to assess their progress, discuss any challenges they may encounter, and share exciting updates on their project work. We have kept a close eye on the development of the tadpoles, documenting their growth and ensuring that the plants in our new garden receive adequate water and care. Additionally, we are organising, creating and gathering our artifacts for an upcoming Expo event where the children can proudly showcase their completed projects. This event will highlight their hard work and raise awareness about the importance of ecosystems and sustainable practices within our community. The planting of the garden with Michael was the highlight of week 5, allowing the children to apply their deeper knowledge. They could classify plants into edibles and ornamentals and then further categorise them based on sunlight requirements: full sun, part sun/shade, and complete shade. We utilised all our planting skills learned throughout the year to set out the combinations in arrays. We have dedicated time to planting, mulching and protecting our new baby plants.
Students have embarked on their Year 1 Artist Company journey, which continues to foster a sense of connection and collaboration. They learned about ecosystems and their components by creating and performing a skit that showcases various ecosystem elements. In the initial stages, they explored the importance of characters, setting, and playwriting, working together to bring their ideas to life. Students will continue working on their final plays over the coming weeks, ready for the expo, making costumes and developing their characters.
Students in the “Courtyard Sanctuary” project group have established a lizard lounge and designed wind chimes. They are working hard to create a space that enhances the well-being of both animals and humans. This week will build upon last week’s efforts when we considered the impact our courtyard could have on community members and designed wind chimes to help relax people. We will work on stringing the wind chimes together, incorporating beads, chimes, tin cans, and ribbons. We will also spend some time refining our lizard lounge.
