Deepening our understanding of multiple mathematical concepts

Over the last few weeks, the 3/4’s have had a large focus on mathematical concepts. Each day students have been collaborating in groups to explore, learn, master and communicate concepts, allowing these new skills to be applied through our inquiry and other real-life concepts.

With a focus on mathematical language, Aurelie, Chris and Hugo B. sat down to reflect on the learning so far….

“The 3/4s have been learning about statistics, probability, chance, fractions, multiplication and division. We have learned how to put chance into fractions, percentages and decimals. One thing we also did was make use of probability language to explain the chance of something happening. We have learnt how to make a probability line, and how to express the chance on the line. We have also used and made word problems and equations to make predictions. The 3/4s have learnt to draw a visual fraction, to help understand the fractions. We have learned strategies to show and model fractions and also to understand them better. This is important to know so that we can understand how to split and share money quicker, understand percentages on money, and understand the probability and chance of day-to-day things.”
