As we settle back into remote learning we will continue to co-construct our understanding about culture, and ourselves. Last term the children shared important objects from their family culture online and continued to bring artifacts from home when we returned to school including, religious icons, traditions, and family recipes passed down through generations, just to name a few.
Now that the children are back home for remote learning and immersed in their own culture, engaged in their own rituals, it is an opportunity to explore our big idea, ‘Although there are many things that are different between our cultures, there are many things that connect us.’ We have taken the following statement from a child, “Everything I’ve made I’ve always had a story” and we want to use this opportunity to find out the children’s own home stories and to put a lens on their own culture.
In the first week back the children have been asked to reflect about life at home; Tell me a story about how your day looks.’
