Last week as a teaching team we recognised a need and an opportunity for our children to process and share their understandings about Covid19.
Early last week one of our prep students drew and communicated their theory about how the virus functions. As teachers we sat with this piece of important documentation. After thoughtful discussions with professional colleagues we recognised the potential for authentic investigation. Could this provide a way for our children to express and make sense of the situation we all find ourselves in at the moment?
We decided to share the original theory with the Neighbourhood and give all the children the opportunity to share their thoughts and theories about Covid19. We gave each child a strip of paper and a fineliner to record their theories. As teachers we roamed and carefully monitored the feelings being expressed by the children. These are some of the thoughts and theories that were documented. Perhaps these theories or thoughts might provide a further chance for conversations at home.
