Dear Parents and Carers,
This week in Year 2 we focused on how we use the spaces in our neighbourhood to create a sense of Welcome (Nina). The first thing that we did was discuss how we learn (Evie H). Some of the things children mentioned when talking about their preferred learning styles were:
- From our brain (Heidi)
- Using our minds (Undram)
- We re-read our work (Charlotte)
- We never give up (Ivy Belle)
- By sounding out our words (Evie M)
- By trying (Alex)
- By trying new things (Makaila)
- By making mistakes (Thomas)
- By asking our friends for help (Sumaya)
We found out that the current Meeting Space may soon also become our Performance Space (Tayma) which is great because we will have more room to act, dance and sing (Alex). We are drawing pictures and writing down ideas about what the current Performance Space will become (Aimi). Some suggestions are:
- A quiet reading space (Seb F)
- A place to play games like chess (Wilco)
- A place for children who needed somewhere quiet to calm down if they feel sad (Nina and Francis)
- A craft space
The children have also been making considerations about how we could enhance the deep learning potential of our other learning areas. In the Studio, some suggestions were:
- Adding more materials (Amelie)
- Dividing the space up so that it can be used for concurrent art projects (Alex)
- Using the Studio for more science based projects (Zoe)
In the Green Room some suggestions were:
- Having a space to create clay animation (Isaiah)
- More technology based resources (Aurelian)
- More costumes for our actors to wear when recording our movies (Nina)
In the Workshop Space , students have come up with the following suggested improvements:
- Ingredients that we could use for science experiments (Robert)
- Having a display board that would have strategies we can use when working on maths (Ebony)
Have a great weekend!
