Last Friday was an incredibly exciting day for the prep neighbourhood community as we officially opened our reconstructed courtyard space. This project was a culmination of our year long inquiry into construction in its many forms. Throughout the year the teachers noticed three main areas of construction including kindness, place and stories. In dialogue with the children we chose to take on the task of redesigning and improving our courtyard space as a way to tie all three areas together.
Our courtyard redesign enabled the children to take an active role in decision making, planning and constructing. It was also an authentic way to bring all members of our neighbourhood together- teachers, parents and children as we worked together toward a mutual goal.
We would like to thank all the parents who took part in this project, whether by donating time, materials or both, we could not have done it without your support. It is amazing what can be achieved when we all work together!
