A Day at the Museum

Yesterday the preps ventured out of school and made their way by tram to the Melbourne Museum for a day full of curiosity and exploration. Equipped with their personal documentation memo pads each child recorded their observations and wonderings and many were brave and had a go at writing. Children interacted with many fascinating artefacts from the extensive bug collection to the collections of dinosaur bones and the plants and wildlife within the Forest Gallery.

Through this experience children not only practiced skills of inquiry and documentation but had many opportunities to practice self-control and the consideration of others. These opportunities included concentrating as we made our way safely to the museum, negotiating within our groups, deciding what to see at the museum and looking after each other.

Recognizing the importance of reflection, today the children discussed the learning and discoveries that took place at the museum. They each wrote a sentence to reflect their individual experience.
