Week 5 Learning Focus

Here is what is happening in the neighbourhoods this week;

Preparation for camp

This week we begin our focus on the capabilities we need to be successful on camp. The focus for this week is RISK TAKING in its many forms. For many of the students risk taking looks like the giant swing, staying away from home for two nights or eating different foods. To support your student, talk about some risks they may face at camp and see what new experiences at home could prepare them.

NAPLAN

This week many of our year 3’s will complete their NAPLAN tests. They have done a fantastic job and have approached the challenge with resilience and hard work. Well done!

Change in our Lives

As we continue to explore change, students are looking at ways to express the change in their lives. We are starting to also identify some things students want to change in school and their local community. As instigators of change, students are going to be identifying different people in the neighbourhoods who they might work with.

Reading

Our reading focus continues to be ways to respond to what we’re reading. We are looking at connections and strategies that help us more deeply understand the things we’ve reading. Some ways to exploring what we’re reading include making connections, using our five senses, and predicting what might come next.

Writing

This week we are working on publishing our narrative stories. We are working in our home groups to have focused writing time and sharing our stories with others.

Math

This week we are finalising our storage containers. While we are building them we’ve been working on the use of mathematical language while calculating area, perimeter, volume and capacity.

Reconciliation

In the lead up to our assembly (on Friday May 31st) students are preparing their learning. Our hope is that we can share our knowledge with the school community about what reconciliation is, what it means for each of us and how we can come together for positive change in the future.
