Hi all and welcome back to school for an exciting Term 2!
We hope you all had a safe and enjoyable break over Good Friday, Easter or any other special occasion!
And what a lovely way to get back into things with a nice 3-day Week 1 (Easter Monday & Anzac Day). As this week has only been a short week, the students have had little time to refocus with our inquiry of stories and storytelling. However, they have had opportunities with writing stories/recounts from their holidays and engaged with a mini-inquiry on Anzac Day and how we commemorate this special day.
One provocation the students focused on within the Anzac Day topic was finding out what Anzac Day is, what they know about the day, how does the day make them feel personally and if the day connected to any of their family members. From here, students watched a short video, read a helpful book together and finally wrote notes inside their inquiry books answering the questions provided. The students were also introduced to an Anzac hero in John ‘Jack’ Simpson and his donkey ‘Duffy’ and learnt the brave values he upheld during the Great War.
Another provocation was for the students to create poppy flowers using paper mache and regular paper. Here, the students firstly investigated why poppy flowers are used as a reference for Anzac Day as well as other commemorative days such as remembrance day in November. Then, carefully taking their time, students ripped/tore/cut and pasted the poppy colours together and came up with some brilliant poppy posters. These posters will be found on the display walls from Friday afternoon so make sure to have at look at their fantastic work!
Reminder: No school tomorrow (Anzac Day)
Reminder Two: Whole School Assembly Friday morning beginning at 9:05am in the Gym.
