The Year 2 Neighbourhood is excited to announce our second excursion of the year, planned for Week 10 (the final week of Term 1). On Tuesday 2nd April 2019, we will travel by foot to Barkly Square to discover the wonderful world of fruit and vegetables! The Year 2 students will be participating in a Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Discovery Tour. The tour around the different areas of the supermarket will help us develop our understanding about how different fruits and vegetables grow in different seasons, as well as give us a chance to learn about the many processes of the supermarket. It connects to our learning as part of our Inquiry question ‘Why Write?’ as well as the understanding that ‘Maths is Everywhere’, providing students with real world examples of currency, measurement, and how writing is used in different ways.
The students will divide into two groups to attend the tour, with Group 1 (30 students) leaving shortly after the role is taken in the morning at 9:15am, to arrive in time for a 10am start for their tour, and arrive back to school at around 11:30am. Group 2 (30 students) will leave after eating lunch that afternoon, at around 12:15pm, to attend a 1pm start for their tour and arrive back at school at around 2:30pm. The groups of students will be organised over the next few weeks.
There is no cost for this excursion. Students are required to wear closed toe shoes on the day (no sandals). We will also be requiring a number of parent volunteers to travel with us and help out on the day, so please get in touch with Meredith, Kate, or Warrick if you are available and keen to come along!
Parent volunteers are required to undertake a Working with Children Check, which is easily arranged online and through your local post office. Your WWC cards can be provided to Julie at the Front Office so that she can make a copy and keep these on file.
