Construction and Co-Construction
Over the last 3 or 4 weeks we have observed, listened to, and documented a multitude of construction in the Prep Neighbourhood. We have provoked, watched and at times guided dominos being constructed to fall down ramps, ant houses being built with sticks, paper aeroplanes being made, a group of children attempting to collaboratively move a rock from one side of our garden bed to the other, letters and cards and stories being drawn or written and art explored in a variety of mediums.
We have begun to wonder about children’s deep engagement with construction.
Why are young children so drawn to construction?
How can we use this idea of construction to provoke deep learning in our Prep neighbourhood?
