Hello and welcome back from a fun and busy Bazaar weekend!
In the neighbourhoods this week we are investigating;
Hong Kong Geography Day
While the 3/4 teachers are working on setting learning goals this Wednesday (21/11) the 3/4 students will be exploring Hong Kong and diving into a geography study. We are using our connection with our sister school to explore mapping, culture, history and ways of life.
The Human Body
Through a range of math-related provocations, both neighbourhoods are joining together this week for a session of mathamatical investigation. We will be challenging our assumptions, testing our problem-solving skills and sharing our ideas with others as we continue to deepen our understanding of volume, mass, and weight.
Recounts
After working hard to write and then practice recount writing, this week we are continuing to present them to the neighbourhood! Public speaking can we little nerve-wracking so everyone is practice hard and working on adding expression to their tone and face while presenting. We also have a couple more workshops this week that explore the elements of good storytelling.
Recording story podcast with sound effects
Along with our recounts, children are starting to record their recounts and after developing sounds effects, are adding them to their recordings. These will soon be available for sharing and listening – just like a podcast!
Creating identity artworks
Expressing identity comes in many forms, this term students are developing personal artworks that communicate who they are. As we are getting inspiration from different artist’s and looking at exactly how do we learn from the messages of other people.
The Reusable Bags
A couple of students from neighbourhood two have followed their passion for sustainability and this week have set up a provocation for decorating reusable shopping bags. They will include tips for how small daily actions have a huge impact on the world around us. It’s been wonderful to see this be developed and carried out by our enthusiastic 3/4’s!
Spelling Investigation – Verb Tenses
Our spelling focus for this week is verb tenses, we are looking at patterns in the words we used most in our writing and working hard to extend our knowledge of a wider variety of words.
Notes and Notices
Please also make sure you have completed the concent and payment for the life ed. van incursion by today (21/11). Thank you to everyone who has already done so, we are excited to have Harold back for another year!
