Week 6 Learning Focus

SIX is a big number for the 3/4 neighbourhoods this week. We are now in week 6, have 6 weeks to go until the end of the school year and just 6 days till the P.H.P.S Bazaar! This week in the neighbourhoods we are investigating;

Hong Kong Exchange

This week, the Melbourne leg of the 2018 sister school exchange is taking place. In 3/4 we continue to explore communication and culture in Hong Kong, connecting it to our lives here in Melbourne.

Recounts

After working hard to write and then practice recount writing, this week we are performing them to the neighbourhood! Public speaking can we little nerve-wracking so everyone is practice hard and working on adding expression to their tone and face while presenting. We also have a couple of workshops this week that explore the elements of good storytelling.

Recording story podcast with sound effects

Along with our recounts, children are starting to record their recounts and after developing sounds effects, are adding them to their recordings. These will soon be available for sharing and listening – just like a podcast!

Creating identity artworks

Expressing identity comes in many forms, this term students are developing personal artworks that communicate who they are. As we are getting inspiration from different artist’s and looking at exactly how do we learn from the messages of other people.

Spelling Investigation

Our spelling investigation this week explores Onomatopoeia, Assonance & Consonance as we look at how sound is used and communicated through written language.

Investigating the human body

Our human body investigation continues, this week with a focus on mass! We will be looking at different body parts and comparing different materials.

Yr. 4 Buddy Training

Our final buddy training session takes place this week, now we know who is in our buddy group we are starting to prepare to meet our buddies which happens this Thursday!

Yr. 2 and yr. 3 Project

While the year 4’s are training for their buddies, the year 3’s have been working with the year 2’s on a special project in the 3/4 neighbourhoods. This is to support everyone in developing relationships between the two-year levels in preparation for next year and to support our year 3’s as leaders and role models as they prepare to move into year 4!

The Reusable Bags

A couple of students from neighbourhood two have followed their passion for sustainability and this week have set up a provocation for decorating reusable shopping bags. They will include tips for how small daily actions have a huge impact on the world around us. It’s been wonderful to see this be developed and carried out by our enthusiastic 3/4’s!

Thanks,

3/4 team
