There are some fantastic opportunities coming up at school involving the after-school cricket programs, the Youlden Parkville Cricket Club for girls as well as GATEWAYS ‘Festival of Workshops.’ Already, we’ve had several keen students approach us for further information – all of which can be found on our blog updates previously/below.
We welcome back students who participated on the Woorabinda Camp from last week. Even though it was a long and tiring camp, students had the ‘time of their lives!’
Quick reminder about the upcoming Halloween Disco this Friday 26th October, running from 6pm – 8pm on the PHPS north oval.
This week in the neighbourhoods:
Maths Investigation – The Human Body continued:
Children are researching and investigating the mass and volume of body parts whilst solving words problems around this inquiry. They will also be required to illustrate and identity parts of the body and relate it back to predicting certain measurements of size and weight. All students will be involved with a fantastic hands-on workshop where they will notate mathematical information based around different measurements of organs and bones.
Recount Writing continued:
As the students are thoroughly preparing for a busy term, our inquiry will strongly focus around the concept of identity and each of the students’ identities. Within their writing tasks, students will be required to think of a time in their life that has helped shape who they are today. Experiences, people they’ve met or being influenced by, groups, the environment – anything that has helped contribute to shape their identity. This week, the focus will be around what values or morals students have developed through life events or experiences – here, they will be able to elaborate how their event/experience not only help shape their identity but highlight what values and morals they grew within.
Research about Artistic Expressions:
Within the learning commons, students will be having the chance to find out information about different global artists and how they express their ideas in a variety of different ways. Students can compare and contrast different art forms to get inspired to choose an art form that will help them express their own identity. They will also be involved with a workshop during the week that highlights the different genres of art and how we can connect these genres with our own identities.
Identity Art Pieces continued:
Students will continue to draft their identity posters inside their inquiry books and once they finish these three drafts, each student will collate their identity list and complete a formal art piece that reflects their whole identity. This can be done by paint, pencil, pastels, crayons, collages, graphic design, clay models, artefact or many more! Similar to the recount writing, these identity art pieces will be on show for share and display later in the year!
