To support our inquiry into sustainable future, we were lucky enough to have Kirsty from Yarra Council visit the neighbourhood on Wednesday morning to run a series of workshops investigating how, why, and what we recycle.
It was a fantastic opportunity for students to share their understandings about sustainability and why it is important, and learn about how to care for our environment and the different creatures in it by picking up litter that we see and put it in a bin, and encouraging others to do the same.
We learnt about what happens to different types of products when they are recycled – for example, metal, like metal cans, comes back as bridges and buildings, and other strong things, aluminium comes back as airplanes, hard plastics like milk containers come back as more plastics, and soft plastic comes back in things like fences and furniture.
