What an incredible day at the Melbourne Cricket Ground!
Sun shining and 17 degrees – what more could you want for an excursion!
As we travelled through the city on our tram from Lygon to Fed Square, the students were already asking each other what they’re looking forward to seeing in the tour/gallery.
On arrival, the group were given a 45-minute tour of the MCG itself. We got to see the corporate box, commentary boxes, radio boxes, MCC members stand, skyline view of the city, coaches box, cricket practice nets and of course the popular players rooms! Ian, our guide, had a brilliant mind of the stadium informing us of all the interesting facts and events that happened at the grounds such as the 1956 Olympics and the 2006 Commonwealth games! He also talked about the number of different sports codes that played at the ground, not just the popular Aussie Rules or cricket!
The second half of the excursion was about experiencing the sports museum and the interactive gallery! It was quite remarkable how much information the students picked up – make sure to quiz them if your child participated on the excursion! But I think most of the kids’ favourite part was participating in the gallery where they could kick or handball a footy, throw a netball through the hoops, hit a target in archery, cycle to see how fast they can go and many more!
Next week in our project group, we look forward to reflecting on our day and how, with what we learnt, connect it back to our inquiry of groups and identity. And as for your pleasure, here are some great shots of the day, enjoy!
