Hi all!
Quick Reminders:
- As the Camp Manyung leaders are asking for school forms very soon, we need the students’ dietary requirements forms back as soon as possible – Wednesday by the absolute latest! If your child doesn’t have any special requirements, you do not have to bring the form back in. This form is found on the last page of the students camp booklet that was given last Friday. Please come and see Jared if you do not have a booklet. We understand there have been plenty of forms going to and from school lately and appreciate your efforts!
- Fathers Day stall donations! We have had very little donations in our fathers stall buckets. If you have plenty of ‘stuff’ at home that you no longer need that someone else (a few fathers out there) could use, drop them on in to the neighbourhood buckets! The fathers day stall will be on this Friday – so don’t forget to bring some $$$$ for the occasion.
- NO INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS – Fathers Day stall will be taking over the gym on Friday therefore no lessons will be running.
- Excursions! There are still three remaining excursions this week and next Monday. Last week we had the MCG and the Shrine of Remembrance excursions. Please talk with your child if they need to bring anything necessary for their trips!
Over the past week, students have engaged with a series of role play provocations where they explore the different emotions their characters can experience. They have been able to talk about the different characteristics and list attributes within the provocations but are still working toward identifying these attributes of a particular characteristic. This week’s learning includes:
Role Plays:
Children choose a characteristic from the hat and have 30 seconds role play this character. This week add scenarios to this. How would people who are timid act in this scenario? Settings can also be added that are connected to those in the media space.
Choose your own adventure:
Children will explore where decisions are made in stories and how characters make or deal with these decisions. Children will use flowcharts to show how stories have different decisions points and create their own choose your own adventure text. Choose your own adventure texts will be on display in the couch area but these will come from an outside library so need to be looked after carefully.
Time of our lives:
This space has focused on showing different ways we can show our age and how it is related to science. Children are working out their age in years, minutes, seconds etc. Resources will be added to this space such as time games, planet displays, timepieces, books about time, types of clocks, options to build clocks. The workshop will introduce children creating their own time pieces (e.g. sand timer, sundial). There is also a link to identity here when we look at life span.
Writing Recounts:
What are the important events in my life that form part of my identity?
Children explore special events they have been part of and if these are influenced by groups. They can also consider traits and characteristics in others (e.g. heroes). Autobiography examples will be available as well as timeline templates for children to map key events. Resources can include podcasts (https://themoth.org/tags/children) and visual arts with Julie Dowlings Federation Series.
Environment and Identity:
Same character, same characteristics, different settings. Children choose from an image and use this as the setting. How will the characteristic be shown in this setting?
Here’s to a busy and constructive week!
