Global Goals

Our inquiry direction for the term is -What do we need to do now to make positive changes in the future? Students have spent three weeks developing ideas on what issues and problems do we face in the world and what can we do to go about changing them.

Below is a provocation that had been given to the students last week, to hopefully switch on their thinking about what is important to them. The project that has provided inspiration is the UN “Global Goals“. We showed the students a great introductory video to the goals.  If you get a chance, have another watch at home!

We then introduced each of the goals during a provocation workshop and brainstormed ideas that came from it. Students were asked to choose one thing that engaged them, and completed a “Know, Wonder Learned” chart, where the “learned” came from discussions with a teacher or parent or a guided internet search.

Our next step will be for students to gravitate towards something they find interesting. We will “group” the goals to more manageable sizes, putting 3-4 goals together to form “super goals”. Students will decided how they best want to create action within these groups – which may be in the form of a performance, a booklet, a petition, letters to various agencies – the outcomes are endless!

This week we will make a post about our “super groups”.  We would appreciate if any parents have expertise/passion for these goals, that you may be able to come in and assist the students with their learning!
