Learning Focus – Term 3 Week 2

In week two we will be continuing to explore many of the projects and ideas that we introduced last week. This week is also a busy week in the 3/4 Neighbourhood, with swimming taking place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and hosting assembly that will take place on Friday afternoon.

Narratives and Character Development

As our focus on narratives develops students are continuing to develop characters for their own narratives. We will be exploring how we know our characters have particular traits through written language, images and acting. Students will be developing Top Trump cards for their characters and exploring how characters can develop over time to add interest and depth to narratives.

Book Clubs

In book clubs, this week students will begin to look at plot development and the changes in characters as the stories change and adapt. Students will also be sharing the work from our book clubs at Friday’s assembly.

Inquiry Project Groups

As our projects groups are now underway, students will continue to explore our inquiry through the lenses of musical groups, charity groups, indigenous groups, sports groups and digital groups. These will form the framework for consolidating our understanding of the rules, norms and values, the structure, the purpose and the meeting places of these groups, and how they shape the identities of the members.

How does our garden grow?

Our fractions investigation has us outside and working on growing the school veggie patch. Through this project, we will explore fractions, measurement, angles and area, building and developing our mathematical understandings. This week we will finalise our measurements of the veggie patch and begin to plant our seeds, recording them as they grow.

How do humans relate to other animals?

Last term, students we very engaged with our scientific exploration of animals and how animals were grouped. This week we will be using this knowledge to create games in Scratch and on paper to show our understandings of how these animal groups are related.

Artist in residence: Giant Grass Design

Now our Artist in Residence has been introduced, the 3/4’s will continue to work through the design process, considering shape, space, materials and functionality in their designs. For more information, you can check out their website http://www.giantgrassdesign.com/.
