Learning Focus – Week 8

Drumming Performances are here!!!

One of the most exciting performances your child will present is through the African Drumming experiences that will be held either tomorrow or Wednesday afternoon’s. Please take this time to look at the earlier posts in this blog to see when and where your child will be performing! This is something you do not want to miss!

Special Guests – Bob Earl & Perry Lethlean

We are very excited to be having two of our parents come and share their knowledge and experience of their occupations around architecture and design – Bob and Perry! As the students begin to plan for their meeting place designs, the students will be visited by two very experienced designers. Here, the students will not only be given a mini presentation of who they work for, but both Bob and Perry will be providing them with some fantastic architecture-based work that closely relates to their own meeting place designs.

Meeting Place Planning/Designing

After the students have experienced the knowledge from special guests Bob and Perry, the students will be required to continue designing what their chosen meeting place will look like. There is a list of requirements the students are to include into their planning and, once completed, they have the choice of whether to recreate their meeting place out of 3D Printing, Clay or Craft Wood. Students can also bring their own materials to school beginning next week.

Information Reports – Animal Posters

The students have had the opportunity to research information based around their chosen animal. Now, the students are to transfer that knowledge into a detailed information report. Here, the students may need to take the time to look deeper into their chosen animal’s information, but taking time to structure the writing into a formal report.

Ants As A Group

Finally, this week the students have an opportunity to watch a brilliant TV documentary ‘The Empire of Ants” where the focus will be solely around how ants work together in their groups. The program will be shown during the Drumming Performances where the students will be also required to take notes and identify the characteristics ants have within their groups.

Inventions Day!

Today while the 3/4 teachers had their planning day, students will given a fantastic opportunity to investigate the design process of inventions. In line with the Grade 2’s inquiry, the students firstly read a book ‘Rosie Revere,’ worked in groups to find solutions to made up problems and lastly create their inventions! A big thanks to Jen for organising a great opportunity for the students. Check out the pictures!
